First Visit
Our patients choose our office because they want a natural approach to better health. On your first visit we will discuss your current health situation including your symptoms, health history, any prior injuries, and your lifestyle, including work and leisure activities, and to see if you’re a good candidate for chiropractic care.
A thorough physical exam, including vitals, orthopedic and neurological (nerve) tests, and posture will help reveal the condition of your spinal joints, discs, and nerves. Static and motion palpation in addition to other tests, check for restricted range of motion in your spine.
If necessary, X-rays, MRI or other tests may be done or referred out for, if necessary. Based on the results of your physical exam and tests, we will recommend an individualized treatment program to improve the health and flexibility of your spine. If we come across a non-chiropractic problem we will consult with or refer you to other medical specialists.

About Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a natural method of healthcare that treats the cause of physical problems rather than just the symptoms. Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: With a healthy lifestyle and normal functioning spinal joints and nerves, your body is better able to heal itself. That’s because the spinal cord, which is protected by the spine, is the main pathway of your nervous system. It controls movement, feeling, and function throughout your body.
Your Chiropractor has at least 7 years of professional training in the sciences and healthcare, leading to a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. He or she works to restore your health and guides you in a personalized approach to overall wellness.
What Is Spinal Subluxation?
Subluxation occurs when joints in your spine do not move properly. This joint dysfunction can put pressure on the spinal cord or on nerves that exit from the spinal cord. Subluxation can happen when you misuse or overuse your spine. Injury, stress, or poor posture can also cause subluxation. You may have pain and stiffness in your back, or numbness and tingling in your legs or arms. Or you may feel no symptoms at all.
A HEALTHY VERSUS UNHEALTHY SPINAL JOINT
When healthy, the joints in your spine allow the bones (vertebrae) to move. When the joints are aligned, the bones glide smoothly. Discs act as cushions between the bones, and ligaments and muscles connect and support the bones.
An unhealthy spinal joint doesn’t function properly. Joints can become misaligned or restricted in their range of motion if ligaments and muscles are stretched or torn, or if discs bulge, rupture, or wear down. Then the spinal cord or the nerves that branch from it can become irritated, causing pain.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help You
History
To help identify the cause of spinal subluxation, you and your Chiropractor will discuss your symptoms, your health history, any prior injuries, and your lifestyle, including work and leisure activities.
Physical Exam
Physical, orthopedic (bone and muscle), and neurological (nerve) tests can help reveal the condition of your spinal joints, discs, and nerves. Static and motion palpation tests check for tenderness, pain, swelling, and restricted
range of motion in your spine.
X-ray
As “blueprints” of your spine, x-ray can reveal joints that are misaligned or that have narrowed from worn discs. X-rays also help rule out fractured and diseased in your spine. Other tests may be done, if necessary.
Diagnosis
Based on the results of your physical exam and tests, your Doctor of Chiropractic may recommend an individualized treatment program to improve the health and flexibility of your spine. If needed, your Chiropractor will consult
with or refer you to other medical specialists.
How Does a Chiropractor Treat Spinal Subluxation?
Your Doctor of Chiropractic is uniquely qualified to restore the health of your spine. Special Chiropractic methods can help restore joint function and relieve pain and stiffness caused by spinal subluxation.
Spinal Adjustments
After locating joints in your spine that are misaligned or not functioning properly, your chiropractor gently presses on the joints. By helping restore alignment, these adjustments can improve range of motion in your spine,
and relieve irritated nerves.
Related Treatment
Your Chiropractor may recommend other types of treatment to relieve pain and stiffness and strengthen your back muscles. These treatments may include moist heat, ice packs, traction, ultrasound, or stretching and strengthening
exercises. Your chiropractor can discuss these with you.
What You Can Do to Keep Your Spine Healthy
To help prevent spinal subluxation, you need to maintain healthy habits. Strengthen you back and neck with regular exercise and good posture. Boost your overall health by staying active, eating right, taking time to relax, and getting enough rest.
Spinal Checkups
Just as you need regular dental exams, you also need regular spinal exams. Even if you don’t have symptoms, Chiropractic care is one of the best ways to manage or prevent spinal subluxation and maintain a healthier life free
of pain.

Frequently asked questions
A typical treatment consists of palpation (feeling) of the spine to find the subluxations (misalignments), and then an adjustment to re-align the joints. If needed, physiotherapy may be applied.
Depending on the situation, most adjustments do not hurt. If the joint is inflamed and sensitive then there may be some short-term discomfort. We tend to use a gentle adjustment to make the correction as painless as possible.
First, a chiropractor has to do 120 hours of prerequisites from an undergraduate college. Then, the student has to be accepted to a chiropractic college. Once at chiropractic college, it takes 10 trimesters to graduate (about 4 years). Finally, the student must pass 4 different national board examinations covering all topics, including neurology, pathology, microbiology, nutrition, and techniques.
The goal of chiropractic care is to get the joint stable. It depends on the severity and duration of the problem as to the prognosis of care.
The cracking sound is called a “cavitation”. The sound occurs in a joint, in our case the spine, when bone surfaces are separated to create a vacuum. The creation of the space pulls in nitrogen gas causing a “cracking” or “popping” sound. However, the joint doesn’t always make a sound when it is adjusted.
In the beginning, we state that the type of care they want is entirely up to you. It is your body and are going to have it for the rest of their life. As chiropractors, we always give a treatment plan that is going to help out in the long run. We always tell our patients it is good to get a check-up every couple of months to make sure things are still going well, so no problems occur down the road. Chiropractors are similar to Dentists in that we do routine check-ups to prevent problems before they occur.
The amount of time typically depends on what the problem is. The first visit takes about 30 minutes to talk about the issue and do a through exam. The second visit takes about 20 minutes talk about the exam findings and x-rays (if taken). After that, most visits in the office take about 10 minutes.
We accept most insurance plans at the office. Most insurance companies have co-pays that the patient is responsible for. We always contact the insurance company first and find out if the patient is covered and what the co-pay will be. For more details on which plans we take, look at our First Visit information.
You can drop in any time to get adjusted, but there may be a wait. We always advise patients to schedule appointments in advance to reduce waiting times.
